visual: staten island farm colony
These are pics of took of the Staten Island Farm Colony, all around 12am-2am, september 14, 2002.  All pics taken completely in the dark with my camera and its flash!
The Staten Island Farm Colony is a bunch of abandoned buildings, tucked away in the woods behind a baseball field in S.I.  To the left is a small pic of a rough map. (you can click on it to display a bigger one.)  Its actually a pretty cool place, but MAN is it wrecked.  Every building is falling apart.  The bricks are crumbling, and even the tile walls inside are turning to dust and crumbling away.  All the olf water pipes and electrical conduit are rusted beyond belief.  The pipes used to have some sort of insulation on them, im assuming asbestos, cause its about 3" thick, but its all turning (or already turned) to dust and crumbled off.  Its a good idea to bring a dust mask with you, cause its real bad in there. We found an old, stand-up piano knocked over and trashed in one of the buildings, but judging by its appearance, it had laid there for a really long time undisturbed.  There were books of paperwork and some medical files found laying about the buildings.  Most of the buildings were laid out the same, with a couple being U or L shaped, and about 4-5 stories tall, and the rest being smaller, rectangular buildings with only 2 or so floors.  All were completely destroyed by mother nature, with everything beginning to crumble.  There wasnt a real spooky element to it, but then again i usually dont get the 'willies' from anything like this anyway.
Except for the barn in the back.  now THAT was weird.  I wonder why they sealed that one building up so much tighter than all the rest?  Makes me want to go back and break in.  The odd thing was, theres steps around the side that go up to the second floor (thats where the steel-blocked door is), and at the top of the steps i found a book of all the notices that were sent around to all the nurses, from 1975.  Big deal, right?  Not really, but who would leave it outside?  (I guess someone else carried it up there and left it, but i cant figure out why theyd leave it there, of all places.)
There was an old lincoln(?) rescue car mostly grown over in brush out just past the barn, but i could really identify it, cause the top half of it was missing!
There was also a small garage behind the barn with an ancient bulldozer in it with a huge plow on it.  This was the only area that we heard odd noises, by the way.  Im assuming it was a hawk, but who knows for sure?

(read the story about our adventure to the s.i. farm colony here)

This is the first house you see upon entering the woods through the 'hole in the fence'.

This is the second house we found, and without any flashlights on, i didnt realize ox was already inside!  (didnt notice till i got the photos back, actually!)

One of the many rooms that are now trashed:

One of the bigger buildings.  This one actually has five floors, if you count the basement.  The fourth leads outside to a small-room-sized ledge where you can look out and around

Tried to get an eerie shot of the doorway and small ledge above it, but in the dark i mustve held the camera at the wrong angle!

The main hallway in one of the bigger buildings.  Unfortunately you lose the depth of it in the pic, cause in the dark w/ only flashlights, it appears to go on forever!

This is one of numerous rooms that are at the ends of hallways.  Looked like a cool shot with all those vines hanging down

Another one of those rooms, although i dont recall exactly why i took this one(!)

This is pretty cool.  This is a small room, its basically all in this pic.  But the cool thing is that the table has straps!

Amongst the rubble of one of the buildings, we stumble upon old log books for the hospital

massive carnage!  this room was kinda long, and was completely covered in crap.  It appears as if it was a huge closet or something, cause the whole room is covered in wrecked clothing

This is a very bad shot, i made the mistake of taking this one while my flashlight was still on!  This is the big building in the back left area.  Its divided up into three parts, this being a shot of the main part.  The others were easily accessible due to fire damage, but not this one!  Doors barricaded, windows barred.  we never got in here.

This is the only promising way we found to get into that big building....its a door with sheets of stainless steel blocking it.  The steel is held to the bricks with rivets!  Apparently someone doesnt want anyone going in here!

This building appeared to be a chapel of some sort, but its hard to tell exactly, because there are no floors or ceilings left!  It all burned away, and is now full of small trees and bushes

The stairwell to get up into the 'chapel'

Goofed when i took this one.  We had set up a flare at a T in the roads, so wed know which way we came, and it gave off this eerie red glow in the woods.  Unfortunately, i forgot to shit off my flash, so this was the result

And this one is to show you what happens when you go to S.I. at night!  (pic was taken inside james' shop in mountainside.)
